NAAD Membership Letter - Sunsetting the Organization
December 2025
In September, the National Association of Assessment Directors (NAAD) held nominations to fill positions for the majority of our board of directors and officers, whose current terms have expired. Unfortunately, there was little to no interest from our membership in serving in these roles, resulting in significantly fewer nominations than are needed to sustain the organization. This is not a new concern; membership size and member participation have been declining for many years, while at the same time, members’ roles and responsibilities have shifted and expanded, leaving less time available to donate to the organization. Past (and current) presidents and boards have done their best to address the membership decline by increasing organizational offerings, creating a social media presence, partnering with national organizations, creating an app, designing committee structures, and even considering a merger with other organizations. These efforts have helped NAAD continue to function, but have not resolved the greater issue of sustained and committed support.
After considering a variety of options and finding none that could offer a sustainable future, it is with great sadness that the Board has decided to sunset the organization this year.
It is important to us that the membership be informed of the decision, as well as the reasoning, given the long and positive history many of us have with NATD/NAAD. It has been a foundation in our professional growth, provided us with friendship, and has been a wonderful resource throughout its life. We want to acknowledge this loss. Board members are available via email, should members have questions or concerns about this decision.
Our formal plan for dissolving NAAD (a 501(c)(6)) is to distribute the assets first through a final member appreciation gift, and then contribute any leftover funds to the National Urban League’s Future of Assessment and Accountability Project. This is another tax-exempt organization that we have worked with in the recent past. We would like to present our members with a small gift of appreciation for their years of networking and friendship. Members who would like a commemorative water bottle with the NAAD logo and dates of existence (1994-2025) should fill out this Google Form with their name, mailing address, and a phone or email address in case there are problems with the mailing.
Our website (www.naad.online) will remain active and will include a page where members can share memories of events attended and friendships made over the years. If you have any stories or memories you wish to be shared on the website, please include them in the Google Form.
Our listserv will remain active but private. Our Board Secretary, Jeffrey Smith, regularly forwards the weekly Ed News for K12 Researchers news blast that is put together by Joe O’Reilly. If you want to continue to receive the Ed News for K12 Researchers, you can subscribe directly by emailing joreilly@redirectors.org.
If you would like to have a commemorative water bottle shipped to you, the deadline to fill out this form with your shipping address is Friday, December 12.
We thank everyone who has been a part of this organization over the years and hope the friendships you have made are long-lasting.
With Warmest Regards,
NAAD Board of Directors
Dr. Carrie Levy, President
Matthew Raimondi, Immediate Past-President
Jeffrey Smith, Secretary
